THURSDAYS at 12:00 noon Eastern time:
May 30, June 6, 20, 27; August 1, 8, 15
Our weekly summer Torah series resumes with a deep dive into the Book of Numbers (Sefer Bemidbar).
Numbers is an extraordinary book, radically mixing literary styles (narrative, law, poetry, ‘samples’ of other stories and myths) to create a diary of the generation between the Exodus and the arrival in the Promised Land. During these years of “in between-ness,” Jewish tradition found insight for our own spiritual condition: somewhere between the bondage of the past and the fulfilled future. Together we’ll explore the wisdom of Numbers through the lens of Jewish commentary and midrash, the world of the Ancient Near East, and our community members’ own insights.
This class will be a bit of a departure from our other courses. We’ll emphasize discussion and interaction, and participants will be encouraged to engage with the text and with one another (with Zoom cameras on!).
We welcome “drop ins” - there is no need to commit to every weekly session - but please register below to receive the Zoom link and Passcode for the class:
