Neal will be in Netanya, Israel for a series of classes this summer, open everyone around the world.
Since Biblical times, and especially since the advent of the State of Israel, we have sought to understand the relationship between Jews living in the Diaspora and those living in the Land of Israel: The complete negation of the Diaspora? “Poor cousins” in need of support? A wheel with spokes radiating outward? Many models have been proposed, but our world, especially post-Oct. 7, demands a rethinking. We’ll look at some of those historical models, and propose other ways of thinking of the interconnected nature of Jewish peoplehood today.
Neal has the pleasure of being a scholar-in-residence at Kehillat Natan-Ya, through the generosity of Anita and Fred Finkelman and the gracious invitation of Rabbi Edgar Nof.
