The first principle of the Torah - and the jumping-off point of all subsequent Jewish ethics - is the idea that every human being is made b’tzelem elohim, “in the Image of God.” In this 3-week course, Tuesday evenings May 24 - June 8, we’ll explore what this oft-quoted idea really means.
Class #1 will be devoted to p’shat; that is, the original meaning and context of the Torah’s statements. In Class #2, we’ll explore the d’rash of the text: interpretations and applications through the lens of Jewish tradition. In Class #3, we’ll study the sod: the mystical/kabbalistic meanings of the Divine Image, and what they teach us about the nature of God and humanity.
This class should be spiritually and intellectually enriching - all are welcome to join us.
