The Torah teaches that when Israel came up from Egypt, a “mixed multitude” / ערב רב of people joined them on the road to freedom. Who was this enigmatic group? Were they good news or bad news for the nascent nation of Israel? And what are their implications for our seder this year, in our diverse families and communities and in the shadow of Ukraine?
